PCSX2 BIOS Setup Guide (Windows, macOS, Linux)
PCSX2 is the reference PlayStation 2 emulator for desktop — free, open-source, and capable of 4K upscaling. Complete setup from download to first booted game.
1. Download PCSX2 from the Official Site
Get PCSX2 only from pcsx2.net — third-party bundles are a classic malware vector. Choose the stable release for your OS.
2. Install and Run the First-Time Wizard
Launch PCSX2. The wizard asks for language/theme, then shows the BIOS Directory page. Click Browse, select the folder with your .bin BIOS file. Pick the BIOS matching your game region and finish.
3. Add the BIOS Any Time Later
Go to Settings › BIOS, set the directory, select the BIOS. No reinstall needed.
4. Set Up Your Controller
Open Settings › Controllers and map your keyboard or gamepad. Test every button before saving.
5. Load a Game
PCSX2 plays games from disc images you dumped from discs you own (ISO, CHD, CSO). Set game folder under Settings › Game List, double-click to boot. Use Fast Boot for most; Full Boot if black-screen.
