AetherSX2 & NetherSX2 BIOS Setup Guide (Android)

AetherSX2 brought full-speed PS2 emulation to Android. Development ended in 2023 — new users should install NetherSX2, the community continuation. Setup is identical.

AetherSX2 vs NetherSX2 — Which One?

AetherSX2 was the original Android PS2 emulator, pulled from Play Store in 2023. NetherSX2 (GitHub: Trixarian/NetherSX2-patch) continues it with bug fixes and no ads. Choose NetherSX2 for fresh installs.

1. Install the App

Download NetherSX2 from the official GitHub Releases — never from random APK mirrors. Allow Install unknown apps, then open the APK.

2. Import Your BIOS

Copy your dumped .bin BIOS to a folder (e.g. Internal Storage › PS2 › BIOS). On first launch tap Import BIOS and select the file.

3. Recommended Settings

  • Start with Optimal / Safe preset.
  • Use Vulkan renderer on modern phones.
  • Keep internal resolution at 1x initially.

4. Load Games and Controllers

Place legally dumped game images (ISO/CHD) in a games folder. Pair a Bluetooth gamepad for best controls. Minimum: Snapdragon 845, 4GB RAM, Android 7.0+.
